Does it work?  I hope so.  And I hope it goes down in price!

Deliciousness in pie form

Remember how I said I love derby pie?  Well, if you don't:  I love derby pie.  Put fresh whipped cream on it to make it even better.  The only shame is it doesn't last long around our house...

Happy Feet

Welcome to my foot heaven in a bottle.  Oh how this feels after a long hike, a day of skiing, or being on your feet all day!  Just spray and say, "ahhhhhh..."  Get it here.

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet almond oil is divine.  Put it on your face for a refreshing, healthy glow.  It makes you feel young and fresh.  Love it.  Get it here for cheap, or here for a pretty bottle, or at any Whole Foods.  The bottle above is from Crabtree & Evelyn.

Graduation

It's been a year since I graduated from college.  Makes me feel old.  blah.

Derby Night

We like to do fun things.  So finding a reason to have themed dinners or celebrations is always a plus.  The Kentucky Derby happens every year.  We try and do our own little thing for it (even though we don't live in Kentucky and don't do horse racing).
This year we had a horse race.  The women took to the track and galloped to the finish line.  It was hysterical.
Then we came home and had a delicious ham spread on biscuits and derby pie, both which are served as tradition down south for the race.  Um, if you haven't had derby pie, you are missing out.

Singing game

My sister and I like to play a game. It helps pass time in a car or just to do for fun.
What we do is sing a song together, but each person has every other syllable. Make sense? Probably not because I'm not good at explaining. Let me give an example:

Let's say we want to sing "Santa Fe" from Newsies because we are feeling nostalgic and cheesy.
T: "San"
W: "ta"
T: "Fe"
W: "Are"
T: "you"
W: "there?"

It usually ends up with us both belting the song together when it gets too hard =)
Hmm. Now I'm on a sudden Newsies kick. Uh oh.

Tax

Right now we are between tax season and summer. My thoughts turn to a more carefree, younger me. As a family, we would go get the delicious frozen custard that is only the best in Wisconsin. This was usually after a day of boating or a special occasion. I would love to get a cone (my favorite part is right at the bottom where the ice cream has settled) and try and eat it in the hot summer heat.
Well folks, I learned the word "tax" from eating frozen custard. We would all get our cones and then our mom would take big licks off of our delicious treat and simply say, "Tax" or "Tax time" to justify taking what was our hard earned goodness.
And it wasn't until later I learned what she was really doing. That and what she was really doing when she would tell me she needed to "fix" my ice cream if it was starting to melt.
Now I know better. And I know a few tricks myself.

Concert junkie

Ok. I'm a concert junkie. Whatcanisay.

A few weeks ago, I was attending the concert of a band whose shows I have a slight obsession of having to see. I was excited because this time, I was going to have my bad boy camera. Oh, the pictures I would take! They would be out of this world! Wrong-O.

They were blurry or the flash had to go off in order for my camera to even capture anything. Boo I said. Boo.

My amazing former Family Home Evening mom, Heather, helped me earlier with photog questions. She directed me to the way-too-cool-for-school sister-in-law of hers, Natalie.
Now I know Natalie is busy being awesome, but I thought I'd bug her anyway about how to take good pictures at concerts.
The results we came up with? Open up that shutter, be as close as possible, and only plan on a good picture when there is enough light on stage for our fussy cameras to be happy. Got more experience with this? Help us out please!

This is Michael Buble. Go to his concert if you want to feel like you are in an old movie at a night club. I recommend it.

Point and Shoot

I am not above point and shoot cameras. Actually, sometimes I even prefer them. They come in handy when you want a stranger to take a picture of you. This is because very few people actually know how to work a DSLR, and even on idiot mode (such a harsh name for it!) the focus gets tricky for them. So my rules of thumb when deciding what camera to take: 1) how badly do I want these pictures to be beautiful 2) do I really want to haul around a big ol' expensive camera 3) is there going to be a chance I will need someone to take a picture of me.
When deciding on a point and shoot, I usually go for size. How good of a camera can I get for how little. The rule of thumb on size? Can the cute boy I'm with fit it in his pocket.
This was taken with a point and shoot and no editing done. (doesn't hurt that it is a sunset, i know, i know...)
