Traditions for this day

Memorial Day.  A day of bike rides and yummy food; going to the movies and marching in the local parade; playing outside and realizing that you just had a three-day weekend.  

I hope you all got to do your traditional Memorial Day activities, and didn't forget those before us who made this day possible to enjoy.

Megan

This is the girl I was lucky enough to walk all over NYC with. We met in January 2004 at an event in the film department at BYU. We've been friends ever since.

Nest

Remember this? Well, my mom made her own with an abandon nest from long ago and fake eggs. It was darling. She put it on our front porch for spring.

Then one day, there was a new nest built by a robin family. When you'd walk out the front door, you'd have a robin sitting in the nest staring you down.

The eggs hatched and now we have baby birds who are very hungry. Aren't they sweet?

I recently met someone from Italy. I asked him what he was doing living in Milwaukee . He said his now wife was visiting Italy and he saw her on the beach. Now he's in Milwaukee with three daughters.

He showed me his hometown and his family's business.

Sammy turned an invisible key and asked us to open the glass so he could see the lion better.

Gorilla

Kinda reminds me of the book "Good Night, Gorilla" and that other gorilla book all of a sudden.

Carnegie Deli

You go for the experience of being shoved next to people you don't know to eat a huge stack of meat with a little bit of bread served by men and women in their 70's. Our waitress was Annie. She was awesome.

Def & Danny

Once upon a time I worked with this really really cool, funny, upbeat guy named Defraim. We all loved him. Then he moved away :(

Fast forward to the end of this year's American Idol. A guy from Milwaukee has made it really far and the producers sent him home to do a free show for the city. While at previously said work, Def comes in to say hi and tells us he is the guitarist for Danny Gokey of American Idol. How cool is that! That meant showtime for me. There were 25,000 people there, so I did the absolute best I could to get good shots for Def (the guy in black with the hat). But I was really, really far away.

Happy Mother's Day

My mom is my best friend. I love her.

For Mother's Day we made my mom and nana love note jars. They both are bird lovers and so I bought Cavallini & Co stickers and put them on the jar. I love their stuff.

Sing!

This is my good friend from college. I love her and she can sing something fierce!
