Fun things to do in Milwaukee - summer style

Some ideas:

-Brewer's game - tailgate for sure

-Jazz in the Park - be sure to take some yummy food for a picnic

-Bastille Days - start it out with a 5k run through the city

-Summerfest - be prepared for craziness

-State Fair - eat, eat, look at animals, eat

-Walk around the Zoo

-Hike in the Kettle Moraine

-Bike on the John Muir trail

-Terre Andre beach

-Walk through Lake Park and eat outside at Cafe Hollander

-Riversplash

-4th of July fireworks on the lake

-Pick a lake and go skiing

-Kayak on the Milwaukee River

-See the MSO do their free lunch series

-Venture down to Chicago or up to Door County

-Eat lots of frozen custard

-See a summer movie on the UltraScreen

-Brady Street Days

-Get yummy food at the Milwaukee Public Market and have a picnic on the lake

-Go shopping on Broadway St.

-Dress up fancy and get at Lake Park Bistro or Bacchus

-Lay out in the country and look at the stars

The things one does for love

Sammy loves "la... mowies." It was the first cut of the year and I let him help. He kept saying "wheels," "grass," and (my personal favorite) - "giddy-up."

Sammy + Goats

He had absolutely no fear of the goats. They would run away from him as he patted them and repeated "nice! nice!" More than anything he wanted to go behind the chain and make friends with the rest of them.

Jaguar

This picture also looks sweet in black and white, but there is just something about a jaguar's spots in color.

Cheetahs

Sister L had (has?) a fond love for all things cheetah, including the movie: Cheetah.

Why yes, we have containers of nitrogen on the corner of most streets... why do you ask?

My friend and I still don't know the reasoning behind this.

But she did tell me a story about her friends having a liquid nitrogen party. Sounded awesome.

Magnolia Bakery

I took one camera (!) to NYC and that was my film SLR. Yep, I only shot on film while I was there.

The first day started out right with wandering around midtown and eating cupcakes for mid-morning treat. Magnolia Bakery had a Magic Kingdom-esque feel to it. We had fun.

Milwaukee Public Market

Reminds me of the Ferry Building in SF.

From that very cold, snowy trip back in February that was too much fun.

1) These are straight from camera.

2) I had never used one of my lenses with film before, and discovered it's a bit of a wide angle lens on a non-DSLR camera :)

I heart film.

I got a bunch of film back and am scanning it in. This was taken back in December at Alterra.

Cake Wrecks

If you haven't already discovered this blog, I highly recommend it for a good laugh every now and again. Megan introduced it to me and we laughed pretty hard. The commentary is the best part.

International Center of Photography

Among our explorations in NYC was a stop at the ICP because this year they are focusing on fashion photography. The exhibit going on right now is of Edward Steichen's work.

It was of his fashion photography of models and celebrities from the 1920-30's. And it was stunning.

(PS: You pay what you want at this place and other museums in NYC on Friday nights after 5 pm. So that's what we did.)

"Where are you going?"

A kinda warm Sunday playing with medium format cameras.

Below: taken on my Holga that would only let me wind the film with the back cover partially open... hence the major light leaks.

It was near impossible to keep him on the patio. As he would walk away from me, I'd ask, "Where are you going baby?" To which he would respond. "ZZ's." (that's Aunt L who lives 30 miles away).

That being said, it was really near impossible for him to hold still and look at me as I tried to focus and snap a picture.
