County Fair

Animals, police cars and motorcycles, trucks, tractors, construction equipment, man drumming, ride that he went on 3 times, and chocolate milk. I think the little guy will sleep well tonight.

I've never had this happen to me before. Underexposed to the point where you can still kinda see it, but there is a beautiful ray of sun that comes in perfectly.

Tried lots of new things tonight. Learned a lot. And had a blast.

4th of July

My favorite party of the year. The US Bank fireworks. Food (I think my brothers-in-law were up to fifths or so), a Big Band, treats, fireworks, and Milwaukee weather. It's always perfect fun.

A fun little band took a liking to Sammy and came and played for us.

He took a liking to them and followed them around. Sammy likes to conducts when he hears music.

These guys are great. They played at Lindsay's wedding and are a lot of fun.

Wearing his "ear goggles" as I taught him to call them. It's so much more fun to say than "ear protectors."

I love fireworks and the delight that they are. Especially when you are reminded of the principles this country was founded upon.

Then we went home and did our own the next night. One spurted off under Lindsay's car. That was scary. But really fun. I was giggly about it.

Megan + Shane

My NYC friends and hosts.
Shane would let us go play all day while he was at class or doing homework and then come home and make us dinner (after standing in line with us to try and get cheap Wicked tickets).
Megan loved everything I loved and never had anything bad to say about anything. She didn't care that we took a nap and that I slept for two hours one day.

We were perfect together exploring the city.

No Doubt

I went. It rocked. I've had No Doubt songs in my head all weekend.

This is the only picture I got at the concert. No cameras allowed. Could they be any more cruel??? I should have just taken a point and shoot and snuck it in like everyone else.

Oh well. It did not disturb my evening really at all. The concert was incredible.

We ran (literally) from one end of the Summerfest grounds to the other to get to the ticketoffice. I was too cheap to buy tickets online (they charge way too much for handling), so we were getting tickets there. We bought them off some guy who was none too bright and the seats were wonderful. We got there just in time to see the last three songs of Paramore.

Then it began.

The only celebrity I can stand is Gwen Stefani.
She doesn't have tattoos. She doesn't whine. She gets to be in a rock band AND wear red lipstick, fake eyelashes, and platinum blond hair. She can be in a band with an ex-boyfriend. She can wear whatever she wants and still looks good.
And her lyrics are "rock steady." Singing songs about just wanting to be a wife and a mom?
Rock on.

song referred to is "Simple Kind of Life"

Columbia University married student housing

Megan & Shane's apartment was huge for NYC. And architecturally delicious.

My favorite woman

We were walking through Chinatown looking at all the raw fish and food items that I've never seen before. Everything was in Chinese and I wished my brother-in-law was there to translate. As we made our way through the crowded sidewalks, we got behind this woman. She was probably 4 ft. 8 inches. It was the hottest day in the city while I was there (look what she's wearing). Her hands and skin were quite weathered. She shuffled along so slowly. We passed her affectionately.

Later, we stopped to try and figure out where we were and where we were going (there was a whole lotta that going on). We started up once more and much to our delight, we were behind our little woman . We followed behind her until the corner, where I snuck out to her side and snapped a picture. We went a different way. She became our favorite.

Drive-In again

Almost a year ago, I talked about drive-in theaters.

The Wisconsin State Fair park is having a drive-in theater with double features. Now's my chance.

Here is the schedule:

New York City

The most romantic thing is seeing a city from a tall building. Especially at sunset and nighttime. This is from the top of the Empire State Building.

WTC

I was at the top of the World Trade Center in March 2001. Then I was at the bottom in August 2001. This was my first time back since then. I felt somber and amazed as I remembered what happened and what used to be there.

July 3 - Gavin DeGraw
July 4 - The Fray and Jack's Mannequin
